Blackest Night #0
I got an advance copy of Blackest Night #0 and I must say, I am very excited about Blackest Night now! This issue will be available FREE next Saturday, May 2nd, 2009 at your local comic shop during Free Comic Book Day. I will be going to Tony's Kingdom of Comics here in Keizer, Oregon.
Among the new ring-bearers are the Black Lantern Corps. Little is known about them now, but this page gets me excited! It appears that the Black Lantern Corps are going to be comprised of dead heroes brought back to life. Will Batman be a Black Lantern?!
Anyway, back to this comic. I loved it. Geoff Johns is a brilliant writer and what he has done for Green Lantern has been incredible. Green Lantern is currently the best on-going superhero story in print. This issue takes what he has done with Green Lantern, combined with what has been going on in the Batverse, and launches a potentially epic event.

Sin City 2 movie rights?
Has Dimension Films lost the rights to make the sequel to Sin City?! Does this mean it won't be a Robert Rodriguez film?! Please say it ain't so! Sin City was an incredible movie and I have really been looking forward to the sequel. I love the comics by Frank Miller and Rodriguez's adaptation to film was simply brilliant. The best adaptation of comic to film I've seen. But this article from Hollywood Reporter sure makes it sound like rights to the movie are up for grabs:
The sequel rights to "Sin City," Frank Miller's popular noir comic, are being shopped around Hollywood, in what appears to be a sign that Dimension Films has lost rights to the property.
The Weinstein Co./Dimension continue to maintain that they hold the rights to any sequel for the Robert Rodriguez film, which grossed $159 million worldwide when it came out in 2005.
But producers say they have been shopped the rights by reps for Miller's estate, who they say are seeking a new place to set up a potential follow-up.
Wait a minute... "Miller's estate"?! Frank Miller is still alive! Hopefully this is all just "hogwash" like the TWC attorney says. Time will tell.
Say a prayer today for Sin City 2.

Okay, LOTS to look forward to reading this week! Wow! First off, Kick Ass #6. If it hadn't been 4 months since an issue came out, I would be even more excited. I'll have to dig out my back issues and refresh myself of where we are. But, I am very excited about a new Mark Millar & John Romita Jr. issue! Good stuff always there! Next is Viking #1. Heard lots of good things about this and it looks to be very different. I am really looking forward to checking it out finally and seeing what it's about. Warren Ellis's latest project, Ignition City, is another one to look forward to. I really enjoyed the first issue and unlike Kick Ass, Ignition City #1 only came out 2 weeks ago, so the story is fresh in my mind! Imagine that! Neil Gaiman's part 2 of his Batman story comes out this week also in Detective Comics #853. I wonder if there is an Alex Ross variant for this issue as well... does anyone know?
- Amazing Spider-Man #592
- Batman Battle For The Cowl Arkham #1
- Detective Comics #853 (issue 2 of 2 in the Neil Gaiman Batman story)
- Ignition City #2
- Kick Ass #6
- Marvels Eye of the Camera #5
- Viking #1
And then possibly these 2 trades:
- BPRD: The Warning
- Freakangles #2

- Strange Adventures of HP Lovecraft #1
- World of Warcraft #18

Batman: Battle for the Cowl #2
Okay, if you aren't reading Battle for the Cowl, go pick up issues 1 and 2! This is a fun Batman story. Coming off the Batman R.I.P. story line, Battle for the Cowl takes place in a very dark time for Gotham City. Arkham inmates are on the loose, Batman is presumed dead and nowhere to be found, and there is chaos pretty much everywhere.
The art in this book is superb. It's not as pretty of a Batman book as All-Star, but it's very nice. I found myself reading very slowly to take in as much of the art as I could. Gorgeous.

Wolverine: Weapon X #1
I'm not reading any X-Men titles right now except for X-Men Noir, so this is my current X-Men fix. Wolverine is a fun character and this issue doesn't disappoint. It is pretty straight forward with not much plot, but it's a fun book. I imagine this is at least somewhat marketed towards people excited about the X-Men Origins: Wolverine movie coming out and trying to feed on that excitement to sell an issue.
I was happy with it. I'll pick up the next issue. Ron Garney's art really shines here. I love seeing him draw Wolverine. Definitely dark and a little bloody, so not for everyone, but I really enjoyed this issue.

Ben Templesmith at Emerald City Comic Con
Ben Templesmith is my favorite comic artist. I got to meet him at Emerald City Comic Con this last weekend and I got a commissioned piece of art. I am so excited!
Here is video of him doing part of it (click "HQ" for better quality):
Sorry the audio sucks so bad... I only had a little point and shoot camera that I used in video mode... the mic was horrible and it was really loud!
Some pics!:
And in case you are interested in him and other things he has done, here is an iFanboy video about him:
And he's on Twitter and has a blog:
